How to Flowerize a Green Onion
Posted on February 22nd, 2008 by wokfusion under Cooking TipsGreen onions make great garnish items for any kind of recipe and can be used to give a dishe a unique and genuine flavor. It is also an economical way of making things look more appealing. There are two ways you can flowerize a green onion:
Single Flower: A heavy stemmed green onion is the best to work with, because it allows more depth and flexibility. Slice off the root ends from the base and the green stalk. Using a sharp knife, cut the onion lengthwise into four equal width pieces, leaving at least half an inch from the base. Then, slice these pieces four pieces in halve, for a total of eight strips. Place the green onion in ice water for white sprouts to arise.
Double Flower: Using a sharp knife slice off the root ends from the base, as well as the green stalk. Hold the white stalk in the middle with two fingers. Slice the end into 8 quarters and further slice them vertically. Cut as close to the fingers as possible. Repeat the same procedure for the left end. Place the green onion in ice water for white sprouts to arise.
